david adjaye at the chicago art institute

David Adjaye's Francis Gregory Neighborhood Library, Washington, D.C.
Rarely do we have a chance to listen to an architect be so honest and forthcoming about his work in the world. Taking the time to watch/listen to this video between one of Chicago Art Institute's Curators, Zoe Ryan, and David Adjaye.

Ryan states that Adjaye does not have a "style," but has a very specific process by which he designs. When going through the exhibit, however, I was struck by indeed his gorgeous style. He takes materials and uses them with the highest level of elegance. For each design, it is evident that serious deliberation had gone forth in choosing what material and color would be used at each level of the building.

Adjaye commands geometry in his work as well. He is very much about materials and geometrical bliss. The culture and society in which each project is located is integral to his designs, no doubt. However, an expression of love for material and geometry is quite evident in all of his work. I am in love with his work and believe he is a great master of form. More to come in the Architect's Newspaper.
