mariemont's legacy

Mariemont Inn

Mariemont, Ohio is one of those rare communities where design played a critical role in its creation. Many architects were invited by Mariemont's founder to help create the urban landscape as well as many of the individual homes and civic buildings in the area. It reminds me a great deal of Bronxville, New York. And even more of a British town or neighbourhood.

Mariemont is one of those places where excellence in design has influenced the community in a positive way on the whole. Even more, that design has kept the community together and is an integral core of this community's success. In particular, I am enamoured with the areas where several homes are part of a whole scheme. There are a few pockets in Mariemont where approximately six home form a horseshoe footprint pattern. Some of the homes share driveways and archways over the driveways. Many of the homes designed and built together exhibit complementary architectural design features, patterns, and materials.

My husband and I greatly enjoy staying at the Mariemont Inn, another architectural marvel, and taking many walks around through the streets of Mariemont to admire the design excellence. My hope would be that other communities would follow suit and more importantly that society would gain a better understanding of the power and importance of meaningful design.
